Prior to beginning work on this discussion forum, read chapters, 5, 6, and 9 Turnock’s Public Health: What It Is and How It Works.
Public health is important work for the health of populations now and in the future. The public health system is wrought with challenges. The need for public health care, services, and programs continues to grow as the population ages, new infectious diseases appear, old infectious diseases reappear, the public health workforce declines, and the need for funding continues. These are just a few of the challenges faced in public health today. In this discussion, please address these topics:
- What do you see as the major challenges for the future of public health? Why?
- What is needed the most to secure the future of public health? Why?
- What areas of public health need to be addressed the most (i.e., prevention, data collection, assessment, policy, etc.)? Why?
- What is your perspective on the future of public health and what are your ideas for meeting the needs of the public health system?
